Governor Newsom’s latest appointment raises eyebrows:
Kim Johnson, former Director of the California Department of Social Services has been named the new Secretary of California Health and Human Services.
What’s the issue? Johnson is replacing a medical doctor and has no prior medical background. If we discover any formal medical training, this article will be updated accordingly.
FROM THE DESK OF GAVIN NEWSOM:
“Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the departure of California Health and Human Services (CalHHS) Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly, who has led the agency since March 2019. The Governor appointed California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Director Kim Johnson to serve as the new CalHHS Secretary.”

CalHHS stands for California Department of Health Care Services. It is a department of the California government responsible for managing and overseeing the state’s healthcare programs, including Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program. CalHHS provides healthcare services and benefits to low-income residents of California, including children, families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. The department also works to improve healthcare outcomes, manage healthcare costs, and promote healthy behaviors throughout the state.
I don’t see a problem with that person without a medical background for this position.
Did I miss anything?
Hi Oscar, thank you for your comment and dialogue. It was very odd to us that Johnson replaced a doctor, and try as hard as we could, we did not find anything in her bio or online which indicated that she had medical training.
Cal HHS stands for the CA Dept of Health and Human Services.
“SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Dr. Mark Ghaly, who became the face of California’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, is leaving his role as the state’s Health and Human Service secretary.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said Friday that Ghaly will facilitate a leadership transition through the end of September. The governor appointed Department of Social Services director Kim Johnson as Ghaly’s replacement.”

Although Johnson will not be in CDPH, CDPH falls under Ca HHS, and requires a medical degree:
“MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the Medical Board of California (originally known as California Board of Medical Quality Assurance) or the California Board of Osteopathic Examiners. (Applicants who are in the process of securing approval of their qualifications by the Medical Board of California or the Board of Osteopathic Examiners willbe admitted to the examination, but the Board to which application is made must determine that all legal requirements have been met before candidates will be eligible for appointment.”

We also asked A.I., just to see what it said. Our question was: “Is a medical degree required to be a public health officer in CA?”
Amongst other things, it summarized the following requirements:
“Yes, a medical degree is typically required to become a health officer in California:
Physician: A health officer must be a physician with a valid California license to practice medicine.
Education: A health officer must have a doctor of medicine degree from an accredited U.S. college or university.
Experience: A health officer must have experience in public health, such as three years of public health medical experience.
Certification: A health officer may need to be certified by a recognized American Specialty Board.
Master’s degree: A health officer may need a master’s degree in public health from an accredited school.”

Given all of this, we thought it quite odd.
I had a Religious exemption to decline the COVID19 vaccine along with several of my colleagues. However, Kaiser Permanente HMO put pressure on us to take the injection. I was eventually fired along with my white coworkers. There were several Black and Hispanic coworkers who had Religious Exemptions and were not fired.
This is a civil rights violation and discriminatory. Is any one going to help us fight this injustice?

We’ve actually investigated doing quite a few lawsuits along these lines, however, we couldn’t identify a good enough fact pattern to go forward with one. We would require a fact pattern that had enough substantiation. As of now, we are bumping up against the statute of limitations as well. If you’d like to send the fact pattern and documentation of what happened, please email us at
