Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in his first House appearance as Secretary of Health and Human Services, delivered a razor sharp opening statement at the June 24, 2025 HHS budget hearing that simultaneously pledged compassion, fiscal discipline, and sweeping structural reform of the nation’s health agencies. Democrats bristled and Republicans leaned in as Secretary Kennedy laid out a vision aimed at saving money and saving lives.
He got straight to the point: America is the sickest developed nation on Earth, spending over $4.5 trillion annually on healthcare, yet with ever-worsening outcomes. “We have the highest chronic disease burden of any country in the world and throwing money at this agency has not worked,” he said in defense of his proposals. “We need to realign the agency. We need to recalibrate its trajectory so that it transforms from a sick care system into a healthcare system.”
The RFK Jr Plan: Smarter Cuts, Stronger Outcomes
Kennedy emphasized that legacy programs like Medicare and Medicaid would remain untouched, forming the moral backbone of his Make America Healthy Again initiative. He proposed targeted increases to preventive care access, especially for underserved Native American and Alaskan communities. And he proposed stronger mental health and opioid response systems, all while attempting to streamline federal bureaucracy. His budget prioritized nutrition and primary care, not pharmaceutical expansion.
“83 million Americans don’t have access to a primary care doctor,” he noted, stressing the urgency of this inequity. NIH and CDC funding would be directed away from controversial studies like gain-of-function research and projects related to what he called “radical gender ideology,” and instead toward basic science and effective public health delivery. DEI programs would be defunded, with resources reallocated toward lifting people from poverty through tangible outcomes, such as reducing obesity, childhood chronic illness, heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
From Allies to Adversaries
The atmosphere quickly grew tense as Kennedy’s remarks drew passionate reactions from both sides of the aisle. Republicans applauded his willingness to challenge the medical establishment and overhaul dysfunctional agencies, while Democrats accused him of undermining public health. One lawmaker even likened him to Galileo for daring to question entrenched systems.
An unexpected exchange came between Kennedy and longtime committee member Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ), the top Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Committee, whom Kennedy publicly confronted during the hearing after Pallone went on the attack. “It’s clear to me that the vast majority of scientists and medical professionals think your views on vaccines are dangerous,” said Pallone, “The science is not on your side. I just really think people are going to die as a result of your actions.” The Secretary reminded Pallone, “Fifteen years ago, you and I met. You were at that time a champion for people who had suffered injuries from vaccines. Since then you’ve accepted $2 million from pharmaceutical companies in contributions—more than any other member of this committee.”
Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) erupted in outrage, accusing Kennedy of “impugning the reputation of a member of Congress.” Chairman Buddy Carter (R-GA) was forced to call for order and asked Kennedy to retract the comment. With a knowing smile, Kennedy replied, “They’re retracted.”

Fury from the Left
Several Democrats issued blistering criticisms of Kennedy’s budget and testimony.
Rep. Lori Trahan (D-MA) accused him of undermining programs that would protect children and families:
“Mr. Kennedy’s decisions have put the health and wellbeing of Americans at risk. From cutting food programs to axing initiatives that serve vulnerable communities, this budget isn’t just a misstep; it’s a dereliction of duty.”
Rep. Kim Schrier (D-WA), a pediatrician, said she left the hearing feeling “ashamed and alarmed.”
“Secretary Kennedy lied to a sitting senator during his confirmation process. He said he believed vaccines were safe and effective. Now he’s replacing scientists with conspiracy theorists. I am furious.”
Schrier further stated that Kennedy’s restructuring of ACIP and replacement of key health scientists could “cost lives.”
Building Trust by Slashing Budgets
While critics paint Kennedy as a dangerous radical, supporters view him as a reformer doing the hard and thankless work of cleaning house.
“We cannot keep doing the same thing and expect different results,” Kennedy told the committee. “Public trust is eroding. Our people are getting sicker. It is time for a paradigm shift.”
Kennedy admitted his agency has quietly rehired former CDC and NIH employees who were let go under previous administrations but who share his emphasis on public health over policy entrenchment. These returning employees are tasked with rebuilding departments around measurable outcomes rather than ideological checkboxes.
Conclusion: A Dividing Line in Public Health
“This is classic paradigm change. The dominant paradigm does not like being challenged,” said Alix Mayer, Chairman of Free Now Foundation, “Read Thomas Kuhn’s book, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, and it’s obvious to anyone paying attention that there is an accumulation of scientific anomalies, and an emerging paradigm is about to take over as the dominant one.”
This is a textbook scientific paradigm battle. To many Americans, Kennedy’s approach feels like a breath of fresh air after years of rising disease, exploding costs, and institutional opacity. To others, it’s a threat to the foundation of modern medicine. Still, his performance before the committee made one thing clear: he is not backing down. His supporters believe the firestorm he ignited is exactly what Washington needed, and exactly what they voted for.
As the hearing wrapped, Kennedy repeated his invitation to work with Congress: “Let’s do this together. Let’s make Americans healthy again.”

Here is a compendium of info on mercury from the Children’s Health Defense, tons of citations: https://childrenshealthdefense.org/about-us/frequently-asked-questions/
Pro-vaxxers will say that children’s vaccines don’t have mercury in them anymore. But there’s still mercury in certain flu vaccines given to children.
Don’t know the origin of this: ‘A lie doesn’t like to be challenged. Truth doesn’t mind being questioned”.
Good for RFK, Jr for standing his ground and echoing the words of Andrew Weil who once famously said – back in 2013: “I have argued for years that we do not have a health care system in America. We have a disease-management system – one that depends on ruinously expensive drugs and surgeries that treat health conditions after they manifest rather than giving our citizens simple diet, lifestyle and therapeutic tools to keep them healthy.
We need more people like RFK, Jr. in politics.
Thank you, sir for your courage.
Yes fresh approaches, change is a MUST.. there are many ways to be healthy and to heal without surgeries or drugs made from toxic chemicals.
Great article!!! RFK jr is a good really guy!!! A server of humanity!!! The ignorant and narrow minded seem to sling mud at him from all sides. So much false propaganda about him has been circulated by mainstream media. The ingredients in vaccines should be investigated but not only that, any idiot should be able to see the stupidity of vaccinating children starting way to young, over and over again with different versions of the same poisons 72 and counting in California. How many doses of aluminum, thimerasol, polytheline glycol, aborted fetal cells , animal parts and God knows what else can a child take without being harmed. Also giving way too many all at once DTAP, MMR. When kids get sick they don’t usually get all he childhood diseases all at once so why vaccinate against them all at once.? Where did the ridiculous mandate to vaccinate newborns with Hep B come from? Many well meaning medical professionals think that vaccines are the only way to save people from deadly contageous diseases instead they hurt and injure a large part of the population. What started as a good idea has become more about profit than health and has created the sick care system. Good Health is very related to the environment, food , air , water , exercise and lifestyle, relatonship and community. I really appreciate RFK jr calling for proper safety trials on these products and also investigating additives in food, toxins in the environment etc. I see his integrity and mission to make America Healthy Again!
